“Can Social Workers Lower the Country’s Premature Birth Rate?”

Our maternity medical home model was highlighted in an article and radio piece on KBIA and other stations. A generous patient, Marie, shared the challenges she was facing during her pregnancy where you can hear in her voice the weight of bearing those concerns. We are happy to report that Marie has made it to full term and is awaiting arrival of her baby girl. Despite the variety of stresses our patients may be facing that put them at risk for preterm birth, our results are showing how a coordinated interdisciplinary care team including masters level social workers can make big differences in patient’s lives and the preterm birth rate. In the article, our program director also offers her vision for the future of our maternity care model.
